Best cameras for boat restorations

After reading thread after thread of:

"I forgot my camera today"
"My battery died in my camera"
"I lost my cord"
"I dropped my camera in a bucket of poly"
"Aliens abducted me and ate my camera"

I decided to share my methods of always have a camera ready. Now, these are hard to find parts <super sarcasm>, so not everyone will be able to follow this, but for those with the budget, here goes..

Must have items for restoration thread photos:

- A digital camera (because film just isn't cool anymore)
- A battery (for the camera)
- A spare battery (for the camera)
- A battery charger (which always has the spare in it)
- A pocket (where the camera goes when you leave the house)
- An SD card for the camera (they aren't just for smuggling porn)
- An SD card reader for the PC (no cords to lose!)
- A PC (you know, to plug in the SD card reader)
- A tinfoil hat (to prevent future alien abductions)

Well, there you have it. If you follow this list, you will have not only a working camera with an always-charged battery, but you will never again need that annoying cord and aliens will pass right over you, never knowing you, or your tasty camera, are even there!

one more thought,get a bunch of the "one time use" cheapies
when you take them to wally mart for developement have them put the pictures on a cd.

I have an older poloroid digital that is for shop use it takes simple double A batteries so I always have plenty of those . Theres an SD card in it and an SD card reader hooked up to the Shop Laptop so I got all your bases covered .

lol, neither do I..But my personal phone is the 3rd generation Samsung Blackjack..and the "company" phone is the Palm Pre

Two words " Kodak Easyshare". Rechargeable battery, and a base it sits on. Push one button and transfer the pictures to the computer....nuff said.

LOL my old raggety Next-hell i860 will tke pictures all day long but I have yet to find a techno geek that can figure out how to get them from the phone to anywhere else . AT&T made a drastic mistake this week and said we qualified for new cell's on our corporate account and then gave us a price for 5 crackberries with full unlimited coverage that beat out our current plans sooooooooooooo I'm getting a crackberry which honestly the only reason I even care is for the ability to use blue tooth with it .

I've got a crackberry pearl flip...the wife didn't like it, and our company uses T mobile which the phone is through...upgraded my pez dispenser phone to this...do I like it? It's a toss up. The phone shuts off randomly and locks up and the battery life is good for a day max...the crappy pez dispenser didn't have any features other than calls and texting, but the battery life was/is outstanding ( talking days here ) and for a cheap plastic piece of garbage, it's taken a beating and is still working all these years later...great basic phone, even though I hated it-still better than the crackberry

LOL Red I have yet to have a phone with a battery that will last me 1/4 of a day granted I am on the stupid thing almost constantly . I actually have 3 landlines forwarded into it most of the time . I always have a spare battery on a backup charger and am always close to either a car charger or house charger . My main current issue with my nect-hell is if the battery dies when I am on a call the phone number that just called is gone and I cant get it back without them calling back not good for a company phone .

On the boat I have a really old Olympus digital I can't seem to kill, the screen went black when it got wet but it still takes great pics adn since it is already screwed up I don't have to worry about screwing it up.

And for phones the GZ'one can't be beat, opps, dropped my phone in the livewell, doesn't matter cause its waterproof!

I have been swimming with mine a couple times.

I use the old Kodak Easy share in the shop and on the water

Like the other guy, the digital screen is shot since I dropped it during an ATV trip with my kid but it still takes great photos. You just can't use any "features" nor see what you took until you get home. But all the photos in my threads were taken by it.

But I am not about to take the wifes $500 fuji digital outside and be responsible for that.

Best thing about a "half" broken camera is if something else happens to it I'm not going to cry too hard lol

I'll throw something else into the mix. I have a Cannon Powershot Digital with an SD memory card, but... and here is where it gets different.

One of the hot trends in digital photography now is to geotag your images. Meaning if you're out and about, when you take a picture with a camera that can geotag, your location information is embedded in your picture data. Purely by accident I found out that my iPhone does this, very cool.

So we were in the market for a new digital camera so of course I wanted one that will geotag. At the time only a couple of companies were making them and they were pretty pricey. So I investigated further and found an SD card that not only geotags your photos, but also wirelessly uploads them to a "cloud" then download them to your computer. It's an awful lot to explain here, so here is the link to the SD Card called the Eye Fi that will work with any camera that takes an SD memory card, it's all explained. If you're interested make sure you read carefully because there are different cards that do different things. http://www.eye.fi/

I got mine from the Apple Store, but I now see that they are available at Best Buy. The photo shows what happens when iPhoto geotags my pictures. It will place a pin on the map, if I click on a particular pin, it will show me the photos associated with that pin. I'm not sure what photo program this will work with on a PC, I'll leave that investigating up to you, but if you have a MAC and iPhoto, you're all set already.

I'll share too...Since I'm a mental case at times, I use mental pitcures...but those pictures of when I do something wrong, well they must bleed out.... because my wife sez she can see them all over my face .

Well I have 2 blackberry phones a Storm and a Curve with cameras in them. Camera is okay but not great.

But.... they stink for reception as phones. I used to carry a LG which got reception everywhere but the blackberrys are terrible.
