My 2003 50hp Tracker/Mercury quit charging and the tac quit working.
I've checked the fuse box and all there seems to be ok. What else can I check and how do I tell if the alternator is bad?

Re: Tracker/Mercury 50 - no charge

There's 2 yellow wires coming out of the stator to about a 2 inch square aluminum part. (The rectifier/regulator). Disconnect them, and check the AC voltage on them at idle. It should be 12 v or more. It'll go to 90 or so at WOT, but don't do that.

If that's good, replace the regulator. If it isn't, replace the stator.

hope it helps

Re: Tracker/Mercury 50 - no charge

You were right, thanks a lot you fixed me.
I checked the 2 yellow wires and had 12 V AC then noticed a rubed thru wire and some melted together..... could have been a real problem. Got them all seperated, and shelided and now everything works fine.
Thanks again.
