Hi all.

I need to repair the transom on my boat and want to take the engine off. Having trouble figuring out how to remove the shift and throttle cables from the engine. Do I need to remove the lower cowling? Any advice greatly appreciated.

you do not need to remove the lower cowling To remove the cables you will need to disconnect them one at a time and feed one at a time through the opening...There is a gasket of sorts that helps keep water out and protect the cables, if you remove the gasket it will make it easier to reove the cables. inside the motor there are 2 tensioners that keep the cable in place, turn them so that the lever is going up and down each cable will slide off now...from there just look at the end of the cable you should be able to see how the end of it will come off. one will come off with the help of a screwdriver and the other will just slip off
