Hello,

Something that should be so simple and i can't figure it out. I have a 2000 6hp 4 stroke evinrude outboard. How can i flush this short of putting the bottom end in a barrel (which is what i have been doing)? I don't see how the typical muffs will work. There is a rubber plug on the back of the engine, but it doesn't want to come out without a lot of force and I am reluctant to really tear at it without knowing if it is indeed some kind of flush"port". i have included a couple of images to illustrate the areas in question. Any help would be appreciated.

Cannot use muffs on my 6hp 2 stroke either so has to be flushed in tank/barrel

That rubber plug is #20 in THIS DIAGRAM ? Described as "Grommet, exhaust" .

Looks like a "sail" version with those two cavitation plates ?

Got the same motor and the service manual for it. There is no flush port (sort of). You have to tank it to flush it. 5 and 6hp models are like this only. There technically is a flush port near the thermostat, but it is not accessible without removing the lower cowl and is not intended for the average Joe to use.

In pic #2 it looks like that is the water pump pick-up. If it is, the older OMC mtrs had the same thing. Tempo used to make a clamp on flusher that would injust water into the screen and clamped on with a bracket and some springs. The # was 380020.
