1970 reinell, ran fine, 120 psi in cylinders, great compression, timing is right on, took boat out 4 times, 5th time, found water in #5 cylinder. Pulled plug, water shot out, took boat our ran great 3 trips out. Took out again found water in #6 cylinder. Once water is removed boat doesn't hesitate to start, runs and idles great. What would cause water in cylinders? head gasket, manifold , exhaust? boat runs great but occasionally gets water in cylinder #5,6. what the heck is goin on with this?

Blown head gasket would show some comp variation in affected cylinders. So most likely you have water leaking from manifold/elbow joint. How old are they?

this is a good read. maybe it'll help... http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Bullet/01/01_13.pdf
i had water intrusion too a while ago. mine was water in the oil. the cause was for sure the manifold. replaced the manifold, the riser was replaced on general principles.

How did a exhaust manifold put water in oil? Wouldn't it put it in the cylinders too. What ways can you get water in oil , a crack for sure but any other ways?

I didn't have water in the oil though. I checked to see if it was "milky" and its not. Just randomly once in a while i get the water in either #5 or #6, not in other cylinders. I am wondering if it has something to do with the exhaust. i also did notice that above the exhaust boot by outdrive, there is a hose that is braided, about 1 inch in diameter, and it has a small hole in it. I don't know what the small hose does, but maybe that is causing it.
