I have a 2001 90 HP Mercury and when I put the boat on the mooring yesterday the power tilt made a noise not unlike a nail being stuck into a power pencil sharpener. The motor did tilt all the way up but the noise sounded throughout the process. Is this a problem with the tilt motor or could it be in the solenoid?
Also how big a job is it to remove the old tilt motor and install a new one? I have basic mechanical skills (used to be a sports car mechanic 35 years ago) but no recent experience working on outboards.
