1987 40 vro power

Hi guys I'm a nobie here so be gentle
I have a 1987 40 vro that had the oil system removed and is now using premix.It is on a 16' skeeter and is the smallest motor for that boat size.I've done some reading and some guys say that the 40 45 50 all have the same powerhead with some small differences,like jets,reeds,intakes... But my poor boat desprately needs a little help getting out of the hole with gear in the boat.I'm pretty good with the wrenches and have tools like timing lights,comp gauges and such,Is it possiable for me to bolt on some more power?

What size prop do you have on your motor? Standard size is 12 1/4 x 15.Moving weight forward will help,also anti vent plate should be even or slightly higher than the bottom of the boat.

It has standard prop and the plate is just about perfect, but moving weight forward does help a bit

I couldn't say,
it a typical bass boat,2 batteries 12 gal tank one basset hound(fishing buddy) and cooler.It 16 long and about 6 wide

don't expect much out of a 40 on that boat. sell the motor and buy a 70 hp.

Agree. If set up is at it's optimum then the next step is adding enough power to move what you have without exceeding the max HP for the boat.
