1996 350 Magnum Tournament Ski inboard - S# 0K189119 - with 4 barrel carb and I believe series V ignition.
During recent trip I notices there was some residual oil smoke at idle and now all of a sudden I have a rough idle that sounds like a timing issue. I have replaced the dist. cap, rotor, plugs that looked fouled, plug wires, as well as the coil. I try adjusting the timing but cannot get the engine to idle smooth the way it had in the past. I did of course follow the timing adjustment procedure from Merc where I ground the purple and white wire during the timing adjustment.
While at the lake with this issue the boat ran fine at higher speeds on one day and then missed horrible the next day without any changes. In all cases Idle sounds like it's missing.
As a side note I can't seem to find the reference marker on the block for the timing adjustment. I can clearly see the BTDC and ATDC references on the crank dampener but nothing on the block to reference the required 10 deg. BTDC.
Thanks for any and all help!
