Johnson shaft conversion question

I am looking at purchasing a long-shaft qd19 but I need a short-shaft for my boat. If I am looking at the parts diagram correctly, I can remove some parts and make it a short-shaft. Looks simple enough, but looks can be deceiving so I figured I would ask the experts here.

How much trouble am I setting myself up for?

From the parts diagram:
  1. replace driveshaft 305368 with 305318
  2. replace spacer 305552 with 305304
  3. replace shift rod - lower 305408 with 305319

Boat: Apache 12VS
Motor: 1958 Johnson QD(L?)19

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Johnson shaft conversion question

It appears I should have searched the forum archive. I found the answer to my orginal questions.

The bigger problem is, where do I find those parts?

None of the Johnson parts places I have found so far online recognize those part numbers. Most dont go back farther than 1968.

Re: Johnson shaft conversion question

Thanks for the tips. Not many marine salvage yards here in Omaha. I sent out emails and parts requests to all the places you listed. Hopefully something will turn up.
