73 sea king impeller issues

I have a 1973 7hp Chrysler sea king. I have changed the impeller out recently but I am still getting intermittent cooling, you can see that sometimes the water comes out real good and other times not at all. When I changed out the impeller I did not see any gasket material, I was just wondering if anyone knew where to get any instructions for changing out this part, does it take a gasket etc. any help would be appreciated.

Well I took apart the lower end of the outboard last night, I applied gasket material to the impeller unit made sure everything was back in its place and reassembled it. Still intermittent water flow and one thing I noticed was a lot of air bubbles coming up from the bottom end when it was running. Are there places online I could get some idea of how and which way the water cooling jacket runs?
