I have a fresh rebilt merc 470 with a new carb and pertronix ignition sys I have statically timed the eng for 10 deg ( 8 called for ) crab is set at 1 1/4 mixture it has an electric choke set at 5/16 the eng runs but I can not get the idle down past 12/1300 rpm in order to fine tune without it stalling out gas is fresh plugs/wires,coil new. yes there is a resistor wire eng runs ok above 1500rpm smooth but not below could this issue be caused by the electronic ignition sys does anyone have a wiring diagram for this sys any help would be great cheers

The "book" says 4 degrees BTDC for the points engine (don't know about the electronic ignition). I tried the pertronix in my 470, never could get it to work right, went back to points, kept the flamethrower coil, and never looked back:D. Good luck with yours.

I couldn't get mine to start with the pertronix:mad:.

Points gap: 0.022
Dwell: 28-34 degrees
timing: 4 degrees BTDC

Good luck.
