First time using this forum. Last week my family and I were using our boating up in central Wisconsin. Second day out, about 30 minutes after start up, the engine lost power and stopped. We could restart but no full power only idle speed even at full throttle. Boat goes to shop.
Mechanic calls me three days later and says the top of the number 4 piston started coming apart and the cylinder is scored. $3,000 rebuild and $6,000 for new motor.
Our boat may have 500 hours of use since it's purchase. How can I verify if this is truly the problem with the engine? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I live about 3 hours from the marina. Thanks.
