I bought an alternator for my 3.0 LX mercruiser Alpha One Gen II at Pep Boys, its the same as the one that was on my boat only it doesn't have the casing on the back with the seal, so I took it off and put it on the new one. Ok, so the question is, there is a screw with a nut on the back of alternator that connects to the battery. But there are 2 connectors on the new alternator, can someone tell me what they get connected to?

Re: Alternator question

Atlernator idiot light on the dash cluster is my guess..

You really shouldnt be using auto parts on a marine engine, they will corrode faster. Is your engine counter rotating?

Re: Alternator question

And it isn't ignition protected meaning sparking at the slip rings creates sparks that can ignite gas fumes in the engine compartment. Does the word "kaboom" mean anything to you.
