As this is my first post, My name is bob, and I live in Salt Lake City UT.
Back ground on the boat, It's a 88 model that has been more or less used little and neglected a lot. It sat uncovered for most of it's life and the interior looks it, but it was FREE, well as free as it can get.
Now onto the trouble with the carb. I was told that it had a Mercarb on it to start it's life, but had failed to run right even after a good rebuild. The P/O then bought a Rochester carb from a on line source, and it runs about the same as before from what I'm told.
The symptiom is, that if fails to run at more than 3/4 throttle, it just flat falls on it's face. From idel on up is fine, but once you hit that point it just sputters and dies.
What I have done to try and help is change the points, wires, plugs and rotor, corrected the timing and set the dwell. This has done nothing to help the problem. It has fresh gas, but I have yet to find out if there is a filter on the fuel pump. I'm looking into this tonight when I get home. The filter on the carb is clear.
Info I do have on the boat, I the boat is a 88, it has the 3.0L in it, and I think the engine number is B451542.
I have the old carb, but there are no tags or numbers on it, same with the new Rochester carb.
