Default 1984 9.8 Mercury outboard cooling question

Serial # 6517700
Im new to boat motors in general, but I have learned alot and I get the basic unerstandings of mechanics and the internal combustion engine.

Is it posible that this motor is air cooled. There is a tube that connects to the motor just above the upper spark plug. I would have assumed that this was the spit tube. However, this motor -where I would have expected would have been the water intake- was blowing air and exahust out of it. I blew air through the "spit tube" and Im getting air out of the "intake".

I have called "iboats and they said that they do not have the water pump listed. However the serial # for the motor was not familiar. Soo I'm wondering
Ive seen smaller motors that were air cooled. Anyone have any suggestions on locating the repair manual Cheaper than the dealer? Old one laying around?

would this happen due to the impellor being installed backwards?

its liquid cooled, by a water pump in the lower unit, yes if you blow air through the overflow on the block its going to come out the intake, its not an airtight system, in fact its open like that to allow water in the LU so the rubber impeller can pump the water up through the motor

Ok Im going o try for the impeller. Commencing to remove the lower unit.
I work on this thing about 2 hours a day in hopes of getting to go fishing about 2 hours a day.

Impeller is cheapest before the pump.
