I have a 1988 Mariner 75 hp outboard. Just replaced the stator and switchbox. Took her for a spin and when we got to around 1600 rpm the engine would stall. Not shut down but spit and sputter. Could not get it to run normal above this rpm. It ran great below 1600. Could the problem be timing or maybe fuel pump issue?

Remove yellow wires from rectifier and cover with tape and retest, if ok the rectifier is bad.
