I know most engines have a watering hole or "pee hole" so you can visually see if impeller is pumping water properly. However on this engine my Father has I can't seem to find one that can be seen while the boat is running in the water? Does this motor not have one or if so where should I be looking for it? Any information would be much appreciated.

If you are not handy, you may be able to pickup a used outer exhaust cover from a 78 (and newer) flatback engine. It is pre-drilled for the telltale hose barb. Check the water routings vs your current outer cover, as the gaskets are different. It may work just fine. You will need to drill a hole in the lower cowl and pickup a nozzle.
