i have a mercruiser alpha one outdrive.after installing a water pump in lower unit i noticed a springloaded kickback after placing unit in forward gear.it does not do it in reverse.is this normal?it seemed to lock in both forward and reverse gear.after putting it back together and placing in gear while running it did not seem to go all the way in gear,neither forward or reverse.it also seemed to take longer to engage the gear when i did get it in gear.i made the shift cable adjustments accordingly,but still does not seem right.what else can it be?the boat is a1982 chriscraft 230 scorpion.
