I can't be 100% certain for your year, but according to my 2006 owners manual for a 9.9, the "X" designation means "extra long shaft", the "H" refers to "Tiller Handle Control", and the "A" is the United States destination. If this info is accurate for a 2000 year model, did a previous owner shorten her up?
