I haven an 87 Four Winns with an OMC outdrive that I just put a new engine in (5.7 liter). I have had multiple problems but the one I am left with is when the gray wire on the negative side of the coil to the ESA is attached to the coil the engine produces no spark.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hook up that gray wire, then disconnect the 4 pin connector that goes between the shift interrupt switchs and the ESA unit and see if you then get spark.

I hooked up the gray wire and unplugged the 4 into 2 wire harness connection and it did not start. I then unhooked the gray wire and reattached the 4 into 2 and it started easily.
