I'm in the process of buying a used boat from somebody. I picked it up last monday and he gave me a week to have it checked out and take it for a sea trial. I picked it up from the mechanic on Thursday and when towing it home, the center console tipped over. The remote control box with the tilt/trim broke. The plastic in the throttle lever is cracked and wont go into reverse and barely goes into drive.

Anybody know roughly how much a new control box will cost (part & labor?

This something i can easily put in myself or does it need to be wired??

Do I need the tohatsu control box or can i get a generic?

Where is a good place to find these online?

Re: Tohatsu Control Box

Start here, these guide's will give you a good idea how to hook up your controls. Just find your model. If you don't find your model just go with the eqivalant hp.

I just saw a couple of these units on ebay. If not you might try http://craigslist.org or goto the manufacture's website and find your local dealer. http://www.tohatsu.com/outboards/index.html

If you find a good unit you can (with the help of the owner's manual) remove the wires /cables one by one and install them on the other unit one by one.

Is it possible to just replace the throttle lever? It has tilt/trim wired into it.
