Hi, I have just purchased a 1989 bayliner 175 with a 85 hp force engine. With the engine raised, or tilted foreward oil slowly drips out of the lower unit out a very small hole. The hole is on the front side, at the bottom of the L unit. What seems odd is that it does not leak when the motor is lowered into the running position. Should I be concerned? What is it? Thank you, TJ

Jockey,
if it is the hole on the very bottom on the opposite side from the propeller, it is you shift linkage pin. They leak usually because of a bad gasket behind the screw. You have to be very careful changing them because this pin connects your shift linkage to you bottom end gears. When you pull the pin, sometimes they linkage will seperate and you cannot get it back in without tearing the bottom end apart. Maybe some one here has experience changing the gasket? I got lucky when i pulled my pin out (by accident) - nothing moved and it went right back in.
