66 40hp seahorse low forward propulsion/prop rpms

1966 40 hp seahorse low propulsion in forward...one second of good thrust off dock then went to low propulsion, barely enough to get back to dock at mid-low throttle. reverse o.k.... how do I attack a problem such as this?

If you are getting normal RPMs, but no forward motion, suspect a spun prop hub.

Agreed...you need to narrow it down to powerhead/rpms or drivetrain...prop, etc.

it is the clutch and forward gear wear. Any idea where to get a gear set for this 1966 motor 40 hp johnson seahorse model rdl-27a?
