I am rebuilding the carb. I got a new needle valve, but it is different than the one that was in it. The new one has a rubber seat and a metal tip, and is correct according to the manual and parts diagrams. The one that was in it has a rubber tip and a copper sleeve for the seat. Does anyone know if this is an updated needle valve? Should I remove the copper sleeve? Just wanted to avoid destroying a carb if possible.

I have found that if you change them they usually get changed back.
Look under a magnifying glass at the needle/seat and see if there is damage.
Most rebuilds just need to get the gunk out of the passages and clean out the orifice on the main jet.J
