Running an Evinrude 175 Intruder Without a Working Rectifier

My Rectifier fried and burned all the wires off of it. After it stopped smoking, I taped off the hot, red, wire, started the motor and it ran fine, with the exception of the tach not working and the battery not charging. I ran it the rest of the day that way. Can running my engine like that, with no working Rectifier cause a problem? My VRO pump doesn't run off that purple wire, does it?

the vro is powered by pulse pressure from the engine. i have been waiting to replace my rectifier until my august boat allowance is in. it has been out all summer and my tach isn't working nor is my battery charging. it just causes some headache having to pull battery and recharge after an outing. i have seen no problems yet.
