My trailer tires tell me to put in 40 pounds but at 40 pounds they still look low. Should I add more or just leave it be if thats what the tire says to put in it. Not sure if you should add any more or any less.

Go by what is stated on the tire. Is your tire pressure gauge accurate?

agreed. i'm not a fan of overinflation for a few reasons (and most of them suck)

As mentioned above, even a good gauge can be off after a few years.

I think the 40psi gave it away????

Would also explain why they appear low.

There are some on this site that have the opinion that it is ok to run passenger tires on trailers. There is a difference between trailer tires and passenger car tires and that is the sidewall stiffness and ruggedness. The fact that the sidewall is not as stiff means that a passenger tire may look more underinflated than a trailer tire.

I thought long and hard before I bought the "trailer" tires. The pros outweight the cons!

My 3100# rated EasyLoader trailer tires say 50 psi and so does my 5/8 utility trailer. The tires on both trailers are the same make and 14" size. Whatever is listed on the sidewall stick to that inflation pressure, just verify that your tire gauge is measuring correctly. I have several gauges that all are within a pound or two of each other that I've accumulated over the years... cheep insurance in my book.

what's the max weight on the tires, and how much does the trailer weigh?

That's the right question. Please read the sidewall information and post back and include manufacturer, model and size.

A 19 footer with a single axle trailer is pretty heavy.
They should be at least load range C 1760 pound rating at 50 psi...
Never seen trailer tires that called for 40 psi...

My Shorelandr tires say 65psi and they always looked low. My tire guage I found out was about 5 lbs off. Even now they never look as pumped up as you would think they should but I now have three guages that agree. Mine are load range D.

Running ST205/75/R14 on a tandem. 1460 lbs. 35 psi max. inflation per the side wall so they do exist.
