Picked up a fixer-upper boat that came with an Evinrude 48 SPL. Model number indicates year is 1991. Entire lower unit is missing, unknown as to why, previous owner deceased.
Question: Can one obtain just a lower end? Is this model worth doing so? Any tips on what to look for, or even where to look for such an item?
thought i responded to this. i would get the power head running, then decide if it is worth looking for the lower. you can attach a water hose for a water source, to test the upper end. do not turn water on wide open.

Great advice, I was worried about the possibility of getting the lower only to find out the top half was shot. I did not know that one could test that way. Thank you very much for that, and the sources. I really appreciate the help!
