I need to replace my lower unit on my qd-16. I have found a few that are similar. Any ideas of what other lower units are compatible. I found one that is of a QD14 (1953) or QD15 (1954) 10 hp this would help thanks.

The '54 and '53 will NOT work. They are totally different and are the 4 bolt type which wouldn't even bolt up. You need the 5 bolt style which I believe you would be o.k. with a '55 through '57 model lower unit. The '58 model will NOT work either, nor anything newer.
Good luck,

You might also be able to use a lower unit from an 18 hp FD. My QD-18 (1957) is interchangeable with the FD series. I'm not positive about yours, though.

I need to change my 1955 10 hp johnson over to fuel pump usage. Is there a cover that will interchange with vacume port to the 1955. If so what model , horse power and year would I need to get. If not how would be the simplest way to convert over to fuel pump unstead of pressurized gas tank.

I used a port cover from a '60 on my '57. I don't know if yours is the same or not. A cheaper way is to drill and tap a pipe fitting into the cover, and buy a small Mikuni fuel pump, which is cheaper than an OMC pump. Most of the port covers already have a hole part-way in. Drill a small hole all the way through, and tap for a pipe fitting. Don't forget to plug the outlet in the reed cover after you convert your motor. The later single hose fitting will bolt in the same place on the motor as your double hose does.
