Was out the other day and made it only about 1/2 mile from the ramp. Was traveling at just above idle speed (no wake zone) and the motor slowly reduced RPM's and stalled. Then when I tried to re-start...Nothing, the motor would not even turn over. Batteries are fine, Power to solenoid (replaced) but solenoid will not engage when key is turned. Ignition or safety loop problem(I think), but do not have a manual or wiring diagram to trace. Don't know if related, but now my battery selector switch position for Batt. #1 doesn't work. All and batt. #2 positions are fine and send power to the solenoid. Can jump solenoid and turn over motor. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Firstly I did not know there was a VRO in 1978.
By pass the battery switch thing and try direct.

Sorry, Didn't realize I had mistransposed the year. It is a 1987....(corrected it now).....Power to the Pos. Primary on the solenoid, so I thought that perhaps the problem with the batt. selector switch would aid in diagnosis of the real culprit. Like I mentioned, it may not be related, but just wanted to arm anyone who may want to help with all the info. I could. After reviewing some of the other responses to similar problems posted, I will look at the wiring to and from the ignition switch tomorrow, which reminds me of another bit of info....When the key is turned to the run position, the normal "beep" is heard, and I can push the key and hear the choke engage, but when the key is turned a little farther to the start position, nothing happens.............So many wires to/from the ignition switch at the console, it's hard to tell without a diagram what is what.......I did manage to isolate the pos. and ground, but the others?????
