I have a older 60's fiberglass boat I am working on restoring and it had a Mercury motor Serial # 1523543 on it (4 cyclinder ngine) that was froze up, and I was able to get it free and running okay, but the lower lube is leaking oil wfrom the propeller. I realized it could be one of two things, either the seals are shot or the lower unit is cracked, it sat outside in Northern Michigan for several years.
I have been to a outboard motor repair shop and they told me they couldn't tell me what year or hp the motor was, but i should bring it in.
I was wondering if there is some type of datat base I can find this on.
I would like to get the correct repair manula and try to repair with my dad (who is 70).
I think it is between a 45 hp and a 60 hp, just a guess....
