Hi all,

Currently surveying a used boat that comes with a 1998 Honda BF90 (carborated). Apparently had some dirty fuel issues; previous owner let ethynol based fuel sit in the tank which gummed things up. Took the boat for a run; prior to taking the run, the tank was pumped out and the motor run in a tank with clean fuel & a new fuel filter.

During the run the motor had a rough start and died a couple of times before holding idle. During the run the engine bogged down and bucked several times; is this the fuel issue? The engine appeared to operate better as it warmed up during the run.

Any input would be much appreciated. Its a nice boat but I'm leary to pull th trigger as the engine issues can be something else other than a simple fuel issue.

On the fence,

Hi,
As per the problem discussed it seems a carb issue, check what RPM and Speed it delivers before the carb gets cleant and also check after cleaning of carbs. Rest all seems to be fine.
Ensure it before purchase.
good luck
