I check battery terminals, change batteries and they still going dead. tach is working, but the voltage gauge is only reading battery voltage. What could be the problem, Voltage reg or rectifier, etc? How do I check them out and where are they located? thanks

That motor has a 35Amp water cooled voltage regulator, mounted behind the flywheel, under a plastic cover. Since your tach is working, it is likely that the VR is bad. You may disconnect the VR and test the stator output when the motor is running. You should see some AC voltage, but I am not sure of the amount of voltage you will see. Start with the voltmeter set on a high AC scale and drop it down until you see the actual voltage, so you do not burn out the meter. if you do have AC voltage, the VR is very likey bad. Replacements are available from CDI as well as OEM, on the web in many places.
