I have 1991 2 stroke 4 cyl mercury 115 hp outboard. the low oil alarm (constant beep beep beep) even with the key on and the motor not running it also does the same thing with the engine running. Oil res. is 50 per cent full. I disconnected the elec. wires coming out of the bottom of the reservoir and the beeping stopped. Does this mean I have a bad sensor? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kent

There is a magnet (on a float) that trips the switch inside the resevoir and the magnets are notorious for falling off. There is no way of repairing it and the last Merc tank that I ordered did not come with the float.

any problems with running the motor with the wires to the low oil warning beep disconnected other than the obvious one that if you run out of oil you wont hear the beep?? Thanks for the info. Knet

Nope, no problem. Just keep an eye on the oil level.
