Last year I burned the voltage reg. This year I purchased a new trolling motor and 2 new batteries. When I connected the new trolling motor I found a bunch of wires in the front battery compartment. When I followed them I discovered they were going to the back battery compartment which holds the battery for starting the motor. The batteries were hooked up in parallel.

Can I charge two batteries off this motor without doing it harm? I was told by a friend, who owns a 150 Optimax that he was advised against doing it on his motor.

Based on last years problems I'm a little concerned.

It would work OK but your motor doesn't put out enough current to keep both batteries charged.

Thanks,
For now I have disconnected the 2nd battery and have reverted to pulling the battery out of the boat to recharge at the end of the day. My fear was that the problems I had with the regulator were related to having the 2 batteries charging simultaneously.
