I bought an old mercury outboard last night. The owner didn't know a lot about it, because owners before him had painted it camo, removed the stickers, repainted it phantom black (by hand), etc...so there's no stickers on the motor cowling now and I only have his word for the HP and age. Having seen these many times, I'd guess that it's in the mid to late 60's. He believed it's a 1966 20 hp, as he was told by the previous owner. I'm trying to verify it. There isn't a model number on the motor that I can find, but the serial number is 1965850. Any help figuring HP and year? If not, is there another way I can verify it?
