I posted a week ago regarding an overheat i experienced with my
4.3 Volvo-Penta with sx drive.

I had to change the impeller in the waterpump, flushed well
as old impeller was missing fins, took off thermostat housing cleaned, flushed
re-installed new impeller.
ran on muffs for 20 min, good temp and oil pressure
thought i was good to go for this past weekend.

launched , attached to my mooring ball, started and once again
brought up to temp, ran great ..i was satisfied that we were good after 15 min, gauges good 140/40
so I unhitched from the ball
I didnt make it 100yds and the engine compartment alarm started
faintly chirping at first but worked its way into full chirp.
turned around, put it back on the mooring and shut it off
both temp(140) and oil pressure (40psi) remained good the entire
time the engine was chirping.
let it cool, hit breaker reset and re-started again 20 min later..ran fine...once again gauges reading good.
let it run at 1000rpm for 30 min ,everything fine
started out again...same thing 100 yds alarm started again(gauges good)
once again a faint chirp that slowly became louder
back to the ball and shut it off.
I summised that maybe it was a warning chirp for low outdrive oil or trim oil
it didnt chirp idling on the ball right?
3rd time i repeated process went out, no problems, ran it for 15 min on the water...no alarm...temp a little low 130-140/pressure a little low30

slight knock at low rpm while turning, stopped and
checked oil while in the process of check-ride

now for the scary moment
oil shows overfull by 1 inch on the dipstick
i immediately get nauseous thinking water is pushing the oil up
but zero bubbles or milk in oil , oil is clean and new ,no evidence of water
30w synthetic from Volvo
engine sounds good , runs good, no smoke(head gasket)
One belt was a bit loose so it may have been a belt chirping but
i'm pretty sure it was an alarm
Is there a chirp alarm for low outdrive oil??
why is the oil so high on the dipstick...
I changed the oil myself this spring and i did not overfill
4.5qts 4 in the crank ,.5 in the filter per my manual
i suppose it is possible i didnt get all last years oil pumped out
but i used a pump and had a full container of old oil

so now i am confused, should i take some oil out of the crank with my pump?
and this chirp alrm, was it resetting itself? or did it before my 3rd attempt
or a short?

thanks to all for advice/opinions
