1959 junction box trouble

I just bought a 1959 Larson All American with an evinrude starflight v4 50hp motor. I cant figure out why it doesnt get power to the starter. The junction box was a complete disaster. Very Very corroded! I took out the connection plate from the junction box and hard wired the plate which only had 5 connections on it, fusing the connections that were fused with updated flat fuses. Really I dont know why it wont go now!. I did not take the black part off the top of the junction box.
Now I am thinking just to get a new or working and good shape junction box from the era. Does anyone know were I can find one?

i guess to start off clean all connections if the motor hasnt ran in a while go ahead check compression chnage water impeller check gear oil and replace 85-95 weight. then check spark and then well go on from there .

love to see some pictures of the boat and motor dont think u need a new box it self. maybe just a new salonoid spelling?

those junction boxes are extremely hard to find.

didnt know that the box? isnt the junction box the thing that holds the salonoid in?

You can also rig that motor with a simple push button starter switch on the motor if you can't find a complete, and rare, junction box.

well Thanks so far everyone!!! i got home from work with a new salonoid and tried to start just because and wow!! it turns over. now I cant get it to fire!! Any thoughts now???

Check for spark...if the previous owner never tuned it up, it's overdue for new coils and plug wires...possibly points and condensors, too. Get a service manual for it and get busy. Read the Top Secret file at the top of this forum.

Rhino, That motor has two sets of points and one condenser and an ign coil inside the distributor. Remove the distributor pulley cover and inspect the points. Set them to open just as the timing marks on the pully cover line up with the timing marks on the pully base. Now, do the same for the second set of points. This timing mark is 90* away (between distributor pully and block). Make sure the thin black wire on the side of the distributor, that runs to the junction box is ungrounded. When this wire is grounded, the ign is killed.

Check the ign coil for cracks in the purple plastic. if it has them replace it. Replace condenser and carefully check the wire between the points. If it rubs a moving part, it will short out the ign.

Wow!!! Can you rebuild it for me by email too!! Thanks for all the help Chris!!! Cant wait to get home.
I think last night I siezed the starter trying to start the darn thing. I hope I can get a new one somewere.

They are pretty easy to pull start. Two hand snap pull to your chest will do it easily, provided the motor is in tune.
