Have a 2004 Yamaha F225. Been running great until this week. Lately, it's been starting to idle high to 1600 RPM (previously around 700 RPM). Rough start to go when gears engage, but then runs smooth without a problem. Then, I can't return to the idle position without turning the engine off. On re-start, idles high again. Adjusted the idle down, but no help. Does it with old or new fuel. Lubricated throttle linkage without improvement. Adjusted idle speed but seems a little sticky. Any suggestions out there?

Re: Yamaha F225 Won't return to Idle

Yamaha had 2 different safety recalls for sticking throttle linkage. The first just replaced plastic bushings in the linkage, then a few months later, a new recall replaced the ball-joint links between the throttle bodies and the actuating lever.

Another problem could be a throttle plate out of adjustment, keeping the remaining plates partially open. The idle speed controller could also be at fault.

See a dealer to determine if both safety recalls have been performed and if there is a throttle problem.
