I have a 89 5.0 omc cobra
The motor idles great revs up like a champ sounds great also.
fires right up, it does not have a problem at all... till i put it in gear.
when i put it in gear the prop will spin and the boat moves.. but when I give it more gas the motor bogs down then starts to back fire from the carb till it floods its self out and dies
The motor is a 89 but has almost no hours on it AT ALL
it only backfires when the boat is in water under load.
I have done every thing I can think of like;
-rebuild carbs 3 TImes!!
-timing check over and over
firing order checked out
new plugs
new rotor
new points
new shift assist module
new switches to the shift assist module
new coil
new prop if that matters
disturber check pretty much rebuilt
good battery
wiring check every thing looks good
gas tank clean and empty been using a new gas can
all the gas lines are cleaned out all mostly new
fuel filters are new and clean
fuel water sep is new
im sure there is more i been working on this on and off for years
i been to two boat shops they couldnt help me
the one thing i have left to try is to check the intake manifold for blockage maybe but im out of ideas. I am just see if any body knows what im talking about and can give me some ideas
the reason im thinking the intake manifold is maybe when the boat is under a load it is needing more air but some thing is blocking the extra air from flowing in???
