88 gt200 alarm wont stop

I have a clean, well cared for Johnson GT200 with VRO. I have not had it out in two years. It started right up. I wanted to burn off the fogging oil before I went to the lake. As soon as the key went into the on position the alarm sounded and stayed on until the key went back to the off position. I noticed that the alarm would sound even if the motor was not running. Suggestions?

Start disconnecting sensors one at a time until it quits. That would be a good starting point to pinpoint where the problem is. My guess would be a wire shorted to ground somewhere in the warning system. Strange things happen during layups. Look for mouse droppings and check the wiring in that area :)

just had the same thing last week, forgot to plug the vro in.:redface:
