Default 1977 140 hp evinrude warm port side

after re firing this motor after 12 years of collecting dust it seems to be pumping good water although i have replaced the water pump but ran hasnt given me a chance to retest. but when first fired the port side is warmer than the starboard side. now i figured air bubble. but that usually happens starboard side.... i pulled the rubber hose on the rear of the engine port side and had moisture as water seemed to be coming thru.. could i pull that hose and start the engine see if any crud finds it way out? whats the easiest way to blow out the water passages in the block? i feel theres crud in there somewhere... all the plugs were wet so running lean doesnt seem to answer it. i can def. do 123 count on the starboard side without even takin my hand off. on the port side 1 2 OUCHIE LOL doesnt smell hot but i know at idle this shouldnt be. will the extra pressure from the new pump clear this up? any help greatly appreciated!

check thermostats?, had same issue w/ my 96 112, hot starboard and cool port side. after pulling off thermostats, found them both broken. replaced and now both sides are even 140-145

There are two stats in the thermostat housing-each controls the temp for one side of the block. Likely the port stat is stuck shut. Also, when you have the stat housing apart, check the valve body. There are two very small pinholes in the middle which can clog up. Make sure they are both open, or it will overheat at idle when you reassemble it.
