I have recently purchased a 4.5hp mercury Gold Series outboard. I know nought about it. It has been stored/unused for many years with very very little use, in fact is was bought (insurance replacement) by an elderly chap after his engine was stolen but i think it all put him off boating! although he kept it greased / oiled - even the metal fuel can is (internaly) spotless. Serial number of motor is 9353917. What does the Gold Series infer? what is the oil/petrol ratio? do you add the oil to unleaded petrol? Are their any gremlins with this model?
Can i still get a workshop manual / handbook ? could i still get spares? Compression is really strong, and the only thing i find dodgy so far is the reverse function - seems to rely heavely on a small plastic 'U'shape item which fell off and i put it back! there is also a bit of a flimsy looking contraption which reads 'Trolling' ? I am dinghy Sailing so not sure about motors - but this does seem like a very nice little motor!! I would very much appreciate any info on this subject, Many thanks in advance...
