ok i have a 1983 120 mercruiser and when the motor is running it sounds like i have a diesel engine it also sounds like it has piston slap or main/connecting rod bearings are bad but i checked all bearing looks fine to me??????? i hope this info is better then the other post...

i took the motor off the boat took the oil pan off and just checked the bearings by hand only did not see play up and down put side by side there was play?
