I can't run motor with fiberglass lid on it will not more than 7 miles , take off lid and it take 4 minutes but will get 25mph will go, but slow down it bogs has lack power get back up.
New impeller , t-stat (vernatherm) , new water passage gasket , and head gasket. The water passages have all been checked for restriction.

A tell tale has been add to # one cylinder which shows a steady stream which increase when them motor runs faster. It has been linked and sync.ed
I am run JC4 WITH .30 GAP

Question should i have water diverters in the block?
(see picture, it is a 70 v-4 from iwombats tell tale faq )

That motor does not use diverters!!

Are you telling us that it runs better with the hood off than with it on? That usually is caused by the foam seal ring on top of the water pump housing being missing. Or the round extension tube around the drive shaft missing if it is a long shaft.

Yes runs 25mph without hood 7-10 mph with hood.

The tube was installed. I have 6" extender , i believe the foam two.

Just talk to Joe Reeves look for exhaust leak to shift shaft cover and recover where exhaust come out.

The inner cover seals the exhaust from leaking into the outer shell of the engine. Note the gasket on the inner opening. With the hood off you can see down inside the outer shell. The same with the exhaust relief port at the back of the motor. It has a rubber bellow connected between the exhaust tube and the outer shell of the engine. If it's cracked or otherwise not sealed you can have exhaust drawn into the engine compartment.
