The stator has two pairs of leads the provide power to each pack. You can measure the output across ends of those two terminals with a special peak-reading voltmeter. If you get 150 volts output from both leads/sides, the ignition side of the stator is probably ok. The rectifier side of the stator drives the charging system and is separate from the igintion side. I'd get a factory manual to help you with performing these checks.
