I have a 1998 forester 21ft. with a King Cobra 5.7 Chevy that will not start after running for 10 min. sitting for 10 min. The engine will turn over but no spark. I have tried starting fluid to rule out fuel problems. I removed a spark plug wire to see if the arc will jump but it does not. I wait till the engine is cool to the touch and it fires right up like nothing happened. I can repeat the problem and know there is not a spark happening. The problem is no mechanic understands the distributor. It has a separate coil for each spark plug. The coils are in row of eight looking like a small shoe box with eight wires going to the spark plugs. There must be some type of cam sensor which tells the coils to fire at the right time. Where can I get replacement parts? Is there another device in the system that would shut off the spark when the boat is at temp? The boat is not hot, it runs within the normal operating temp. Thanks for your help.

sounds like you are overheating or have an overtemp switch that has gone bad. Need more info on engine make and model

My first question is why you have a King Cobra in a 1998 boat. Are you sure that is what you have since the last one was built in 94

Bruceb58, you are correct it is a 1990. I will get the engine info soon, the boat is out of town. Thanks again for the help.

That will be a good start. Don't think they had King Cobra in 1990 either but i think you are narrowing down the year. :) Next step is figuring out what type of ignition system you have.
