2000 250 Johnson Ocean Pro. Had carbs rebuilt and tank pumped because motor would start and die immediately. Since getting it back the boat idles fine, revs in neutral fine, and will go into gear and rev with no problems on the hose. When in the water the most I can get is about 2300 RPM at WOT everytime. Would this be a stator or paowerpack issue? I checked spark on the hose and it looks good, but again, at Idle I have no problems. Have tried running on aux tank, had carbs cleaned, temp sensors were replaced when I overheated the motor a few months ago, compression checked out OK, all fuel filters replaced. I did notice I am getting some unburnt oil out of the prop now as well since I have had this issue with WOT. Also notice some black rubber material that looks like it melted down from the stator. Any help or direction, I would hate to spend all the money and replace both the stator and power pack, if only one is bad.
