I have a 1976 Chrysler outboard, 115 hp. I have been working on getting it into condition for the water and today I took it out on the lake and noticed I was having throttle issues. Whenever I would throttle up their would be a delayed response and the engine would shake violently and rattle until the drive shaft engaged. Well it sounded like the drive shaft trying to catch. AS a result i had very little responsiveness when throttling up or into reverse. It felt like the engine was accelerating in full throttle but the impeller was not moving accordingly. What could possibly cause this problem?

Re: Throttle Issues

Lets get some additional info.

Does it shift into gear with a thunk?
Does it ride smoothly at low speeds?
What RPM does the problem start at.
Have you done a compression test? What are the numbers?
