Way back in the early spring my fishing partner and I went to launch my boat and the starting battery was weak. We didn't want to waste the trip so we (read that he) swapped the starting battery for one of my trolling batteries. The big motor started and off we go. After the trip, I replaced the weak starting battery with a new one.
However, here's where the problem starts. I was doing "something else" while my buddy was swapping out the battery that first time. He had fastened the "ground" of my fuel sender to the postive terminal and I never noticed. I did notice that the fuel gauge didn't work after the swap.
I was looking in the bildge area for a "lost wire" but never found one.
I spent several hours of searching here at iboats on how to trouble shoot my fuel gauge problem.
So today with the help of my wife I was trouble shooting my problem and finally discovered the fact of my buddy attaching the ground from my sending unit to the positive battery terminal. I correctly attached that wire to the negative terminal and yippee-yai-kai-ee my fuel gauge once again is working.
Thanks iboats for this forum and all the help I have received over the years.
Moral of the story: No matter what you think about your fishing partner, always do the work yourself before you allow someone else to mess up before you do.
