Water Ingestion - 1975 Merc 1150

Welcome to my 1st post on this board :)

We have a 1975 Merc 1150 that I have just rebuilt the fuel pump and carbs (cleaning, needle/seat, floats). While adjusting the timing I noticed moisture on plugs 5,4,3 a couple little droplets on each plug.

I have been reading some horror stories related to fixing this issue. Question: How much water is too much? The piston domes look carboned.

It is not uncommon to get condensation on the plugs when the engine is out of the water, or in the water for that matter. If your piston tops are "sooty looking" then you are probably OK. If there was water ingestion the piston tops would be steam cleaned, at least in some areas.:)

Thanks for your thoughts Dave. I hadn't considered condensation. I'll take real close look at all pistons for signs.
